Community-based Disaster Preparedness Training course is held during April 23-25, 2012 at Section 2 Church of Ban Mae Surin camp. There are 83 trainees comprising 25 female and 58 male who are committee, chief and representative of each section. The knowledge gained from the training will be used for protecting their section from natural disasters. Below are training curriculums:
1) Component of fire: oxygen, fuel and heat. If any of these factors is missing there cannot be fire.
2) How to control fire: removing fuel, reducing heat and decreasing oxygen concentration
3) Causes of fire: natural causes and man-made fire

After the lecture about causes of fire and prevention, an operation plan has been made by assigning group work for each section. Each group participants has to draw a map of their section, identifying important places such as roads, waterways, temples, churches, schools, hospitals, dormitories, organization buildings, etc. Then each section send one representative to report at the podium. After every group has presented their landmarks, the trainer makes a conclusion and identify where are the safe venues as meeting places that the camp population should go to when emergency situation occurs such as wildfire, floods, etc.
Community-based Disaster Management Committee
The next step is to have each section select their own 25 committee members for disaster management, covering 5 departments i.e. Prevention and preparedness department, Warning and communication department, fire control department, evacuation department, search, rescue and relief department.
Fire control drill:
The trainer demonstrate how to control and extinguish fire, and allow each participant to practice. Tips are to divide big fire into smaller fire and put out by water or fire swatter.
